GENERAL JOB SUMMARY

The Safety Manager is a key position in establishing a safety culture by auditing the processes for the Elite Companies. This position will provide leadership and knowledge in construction to work with the companies on safety, compliance, expertise, and accountability.

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES

  1. Must be fluent in English and Spanish
  2. Experience and understanding of Federal and CA state laws and regulations, Unions and Cal/OSHA regulations and requirements
  3. Effective member of the HR function
  4. Achieve company goals by completing role responsibilities
  5. A positive attitude when faced with challenges
  6. Ability to interface with all levels of personnel
  7. Gather and compile data, and prepare reports
  8. Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite
  9. Certificate of Completion for OSHA 10 or 30 and First Aid / CPR
  10. Strong verbal, written and persuasive skills to motivate teams; work effectively with diverse groups
  11. Excellent interpersonal skills
  12. Valid Driver’s License; will travel 60 – 75% of the time (between Bakersfield and the Bay Area), to job sites and project locations, as required
  13. Maintain good records of all safety-related activities

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE 

At least a Bachelor's degree required (preferably in Environmental Health and Safety or Occupational Safety and Health), and a minimum of three years leadership/managerial experience within the Health and Safety function, one or more years of related Human Resources experience in a related industry, and five years' experience in the construction industry. Experience working with a company with at least 100 team members (combined companies or individual companies).

  1. Extensive automobile travel required
  2. Regularly required to talk and listen
  3. Frequently required to sit, stand, walk, reach, and use hands, arms and fingers
  4. Required to move up to the 50lbs.

  6. Routinely use standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets, and fax machines
  7. Frequently operate machinery; only when/if trained and certified according to OSHA and safety standards
  8. Use hands/fingers and legs to operate, activate, use, prepare, inspect, place, detect and position materials
  9. Specific vision abilities required; including close vision, depth perception and the ability to adjust focus

10. Outdoor work in all types of weather conditions and exposure to the elements; including heavy to moderate noise and extreme proximity to moving equipment or machinery, electrical energy, and tools and machines regularly used in construction

 

CORE AREAS OF RESPONSIBILITY

 

  1. Safety
    • Prepare safety reports for management; outlining trends for near misses, first aid injuries and medically treated injuries
    • Lead injury and incident inquiries and evaluations
    • Conduct:
      • Safety audits
      • Job observations
      • Incident / accident investigations
    • Monitor and ensure a safe and healthy working environment at job sites
    • Facilitate safety meetings, along with the HR Manager
    • Complete:
      • Behavior-Based Safety Observations (BBSO)
      • Standard Operating Procedures (SOP)
      • Job Safety Analysis’ (JSA)
    • May be assigned other duties as required
    • Counsel and assist management with safety-related prevention and/or concerns
    • Safety point of contact for outside organizations, including customers and third parties
  2. Training and Development
    • Ensure tailgates and other relevant communications pertaining to all Elite companies are delivered, tracked and documented
    • Work with project management and field teams to develop and implement solutions for safety-related issues on project sites
    • Partner with management, as well as the HR department, to:
      • Ensure all new hires receive a safety orientation
      • Manage annual training requirements for existing team members
  1. Workers Compensation (WC)
    • Work with the HR Manager:
      • On the return to work program
      • To ensure compliance with Elite Team Offices’ worker’s compensation program, including working with internal personnel and third-party administrators/legal counsel
      • Effectively investigate and resolve claims in a timely and cost-effective manner
    • Research and collect forms for WC injuries
      • Incident/accident reports
      • DCW1
      • Work status notes
    • Provide both, written and verbal Spanish translation services
  2. Compliance and Risk Management
  • Ensure compliance with all regulatory bodies and standards (including OSHA, EPA, etc.)

Update the Illness and Injury Prevention Program manual, as needed
